What is actually included in the MST?Before the test started:
1. The ICBC examiner (or the Assessment Officer) will first introduce themselves and explain the purpose of test. He/She may also check your photo ID if necessary. 2. You will need to show the examiner how to operate the signals, high/low beam light, horn, brakes lights, Ignitition switch and engine kill switch. 3. You will ask to push your motorcycle, and also measure the turning radius of the motorcycle that will affect the U-Turn and Slalom distance. 4. You will be asked to demonstrate the hand signal (Left, right, slow or stop). Manoeuvre Instructions: The MST or MSA has 4 majors circult runs. Listen carefully about the instruction from the examiner. If necessary, you could politely ask him/her to repeat or explain more. Before begins each manoeurve, the examiner will ask if you have any question, then you should wait for the signal of the examiner before you start moving your motorcycle. |
Circuit 1
1. Slow riding and stop - you will be asked to ride on path between two cones (the width of the path are 1.5 meters) with the speed between 3-5 km/hr, without wobbling or putting your foot down. You must stop your front tire in the middle of the stop box. (Wait for the instruction) 2. U-Turn and Slalom - you will be asked to make a tight U-turn within the designated area, with any speed you feel comfortable, without putting the foot down or hitting any cones. After the U-turn, you move into a Slalom without stopping, weave throught all five cones without touching or skipping or putting your foot down. You stop after your motorcycle completely passed the last cone. (Wait for the instruction for the next circuit) |
Circuit 2

After you started, making the left turn within the boundary at any speed you feel comfortable, without touching any cones or putting your foot down. Do not stop at the exit of the left turn. Slow down and adjust your speed to 3-5 km/hr after you motorcycle passed the gate, continue to ride at slow speed then stop your front tire in the middle of the stop box. Circuit 3 and 4
Both Circuit 3 and 4 are the same. You will need to perform it two times and all manoeurves in this circuit are connected together. Do not stop between each manoeurve. 1. Tight Right Turn - you will be asked to move to the right turn starting point. After the examiner gave you the signal to start, you should make the right turn within the boundary at any speed you feel comfortable, without touching any cones or putting your foot down. (Continue without stopping) 2. Speed up and Slow down - after you pass the gate, you will be asked to accelerate between 25-30 km/hr, then slow down to an appropriate speed for the U-turn. (Continue without stopping) 3. Wide U-turn - make sure you look where you want to go while making the U-turn. Adjust the speed that you feel comfortable (not so slow but not so fast) when going through the wide U-turn. Then, keeping and pass the stop box without stopping. (Continue without stopping) 4. Steady speed and Sudden Stop - after you pass the stop box, you will be asked to make a steady speed riding between 25-30 km/hr. You should not ease the gas, or cover the front brake lever at this moment. Keep riding straight and look forward. The examiner should already have his/her arm raised. Without ease the gas or cover the front brake, when you see the examiner drops his/her arm, make a quick stop smoothly without locking the tires or stalling the bike. You must be shifted to the 1st gear when stopping. (Wait for the instruction for the next circuit) You would be asked to do it one more time (the 4th circuit), then your MST/MSA is completed. |
